I'm fundraising to raise money for Cancer Research UK. 12 months on and i am as determined as ever to win through.

My Story

Thank you for visiting my Fundraising Page. The money I raise will help fund life-saving research and to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. Donating through this page is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with Cancer Research UK. 2018 began with a routine check up at the doctor for a virus i couldn't shift , i had not been to the doctor for some time and as a result blood tests were requested , the results led to further investigations and a diagnosis of bowel cancer . Devastating news for myself and the family , i have three adult children and three young grandchildren , but i set myself to beat the cancer and set off down the road of endoscopy and colonoscopy and eventually started the chemotherapy . Two courses completed and all was going well but the third course sent me into a serious adverse reaction which resulted in four days in intensive care and two weeks in hospital which really set me back . On returning home , after twenty four hours i experienced terrible stomach pains and was admitted once again to Hospital as my bowel had burst . A serious situation and a long operation , further recovery in intensive care and further long stay in hospital as a result . I returned home but was still very poorly and weak for a further six weeks before i started to feel better , i am now well but still with the scars and consequences of the operation , and still further chemotherapy to complete. The skills and care i received from surgeons , consultants , and nurses during my stay and the care from the district nurses and the local NHS practice was amazing and as i was in recovery i decided i had to do something to repay that care i received . I will be organising various events to raise funds for both Cancer Research UK and especially for the Bobby Moore Bowel Cancer Charity over the coming twelve months and any help or support will be greatly appreciated . Cancer is a terrible thing , but with the right approach and help we can continue to battle to find a cure . Thank you . Mark. We have reached the initial target of £1000 , thank you to all who contributed . I am now setting a new target of £5000 and have some events already lined up for 2019 . February 2cnd - Quiz night at Hollins Grove Conservative Club . April 26th - Mark's charity golf day . As for me , i am felling well , off the chemo at the moment but looking like i will be going back on it shortly , scan results are encouraging , and i am working hard on my fitness and diet to keep myself as well as possible .
