My Story
Whilst serving with the Army in Northern Ireland, our family lost my Grandad, Bill, to cancer in November 1993. A very proud gentleman, ex-RAF, who was born in Manchester, was stationed with the RAF in Cornwall, where he met and married my Nan, Enid, and they brought up their three daughters. All members of our family were and are very proud of Pap, as he headed up our family and was a great role model to me and I miss him dearly. My Mum, Janice, was such a very strong lady, bringing up my brother Jason and I alone, for several years, before I joined the Army. Losing Jason just before his 21st. Birthday took its toll on Mum, which she never recovered from, but she continued to support me as I chose my career in the Military. Mum had many friends and, most recently, enjoyed working as a Passenger Assistant with a local company, looking after both children and adults who attended college and required extra care. Mum became ill late last year, was diagnosed with cancer and after an operation to remove this, she enjoyed a lovely Christmas with her family and seemed to start recovering slightly, however her illness was soon to be diagnosed as an aggressive cancer and we lost Mum in February of this year. Mum is missed greatly by her husband Ian, they had been together for over 41 years and were looking forward to celebrating their Ruby Wedding Anniversary in March this year but sadly this was not to be. Mum is also loved and missed by their son, my younger brother Gareth and all the family, Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren and friends who loved her. I have yet to come to terms with my Mum's sudden and very recent passing. The personal standards set by my Pap and Mum are what have help make me what I am today and my love for them both is endless. We cannot change what has happened but we can help to raise the funds needed to help find a cure to this heartbreaking disease. Cancer is happening right now, which is why I’m raising money right now for Cancer Research UK. There’s no time to lose!
