Marie's Chester 5k

For the last few years I have run a 5k to raise money for a fantastic cause that helps so many families. Sadly 3 years ago we found out my dad had oesophageal cancer and he fought like a trooper. He had a life saving operation and endless hours of treatment and my amazing mum was by his side every step of the way. He fought incredibly hard, but on 20th April 2017 we were given the heartbreaking news that the cancer was back and surprisingly it was in the same place and dad was told he potentially only had weeks to live without any treatment. Our brave, strong dad continued to never give up and had some more intense chemo to buy him as much time as possible. We created the most amazing memories and laughed until we cried and I am so proud of the strength and determination my parents showed us through the most difficult time of our lives. My dad saw both his children get married, we had an amazing Christmas together and although dad fought with every ounce of strength he had, sadly he lost his fight on January 5th 2018 and our lives feel incomplete without him. Dad has supported me with my 5k runs, and last year I decided to challenge myself to run 10k. My amazing friend Fiona then suggested running a half marathon! I laughed in her face as I could hardly run up the stairs at this point! However, I accepted the challenge and crossed the finish line! Although it was a huge challenge for me, it's nothing compared to the fight that people with this awful disease have to face alongside their families and I want to give something back to a charity so close to our hearts. This year I will be running a 5k again to ease myself back into running, and I’m hoping to complete another half marathon next year! Both times my amazing bestie Fiona will be with me and I can’t wait to get back to it! Thank you for everyone's continued love and support and I appreciate everyone's donations so much.
