My Story

On Saturday 1 June 2019, I will abseil down the Crick. Am I scared? You bet I am. But the fear I feel is nothing compared to the courage that I've seen. This abseil is for all those that we love, that we celebrate, that we've lost... This is for courage, grace, tenacity and more tomorrows... This is for more research, more progress and more hope... This is for the every day heroes... As I abseil down the Crick, I will be holding you in my heart. Cancer is devastatingly personal...How many of us know someone who's been affected by cancer? It's why I studied biology in university, and why my MS and PhD were on DNA damage and repair and genomic integrity. It's why I worked at CRUK's London Research Institute for 10 years on chromosome stability. It's why my family, friends and colleagues have taken part in Race for Life. It's why I joined the Crick's Education Team, and why I'm so proud to work at an institute that champions Discovery Without Boundaries. To everyone reading this page, the Crick is a state-of-the-art building in central London - which houses 1500 scientists and support staff working collaboratively across disciplines, making it the biggest biomedical research facility under a single roof in Europe.
