My Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. This March I’m walking 10,000 steps a day throughout the month to help beat cancer sooner. My lovely dad has stage 4 metastatic melanoma and is currently undergoing palliative immunotherapy treatment under the care of both Poole & Dorchester hospital and is now also receiving additional palliative care from Weldmar. Melanoma is a form of skin cancer which has a high presence in veterans of the armed forces who served in hot climates. Dad served in operations in Malaya and it was not so long ago he finally received the Pingat Jasa Malaysia medal for his service. Melanoma however can effect anyone of any age and if not caught early enough can be deadly. Much research is going into immunotherapy, used in melanoma patients, which is a type of cancer treatment that boosts the body’s natural defenses to fight cancer and works by slowing the growth of cancer cells. It’s still being trialled & developed and I hope that any money raised through my 10,000 steps in March will help fund further research not only for the progression of immunotherapy but for all cancer treatments. If you can spare a pound or two, I’d be very grateful! Thank you for reading, much love, Maria x
