My Story
1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. This is a startling statistic that is forever etched in my mind and holds true in our family of 5 siblings. My beautiful sister Rita was just 46 years old when she was diagnosed with Oesophageal Cancer. It was heartbreaking to watch this dreadful disease slowly take over my sister’s body and although she fought bravely, within 3 months Rita lost the battle. That was difficult enough and then 15 months later, I too was diagnosed with cancer-Bowel cancer. I had to spend 9 months going through difficult treatment with surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. I am hugely grateful for this treatment and pray that more can be done in the future so that people like my beautiful Rita are able to see their children grow up.
