My Story
Hi, I'm Maddy, and together with my running partner Ludo (my four-legged best friend) πβπ¦Ί, we're taking on the challenge of canicross running 1,000 miles throughout 2026 to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK. While most of our miles are run on the paths and pavements around our home in Hampshire, we will also be taking the Madudo Challenge on the road, exploring stunning locations across the UK and sharing the beauty of this country as we run for a cause that matters. πΊοΈ You can follow our journey day by day on Facebook... www.facebook.com/donate/1251871613437674/ β¨ But this isn't just about the miles. It's about sharing a story of hope.β¨ Why are we doing this? π¬ Iβm running because we have entered a "Golden Age" of cancer research. It is staggering to realise that just five years ago (2021), much of the technology we are using today was either emerging or didn't even exist. We are at a unique turning point where four massive scientific pillars are finally converging: β‘ Programmable Biology: We are learning to "re-program" immune cells to hunt cancer with surgical accuracy. π The Measurement Revolution: We can now spot cancer in a single drop of blood long before symptoms appear. π¦ The Computational Layer: AI is now mapping the 3D "blueprints" of life, allowing scientists to design drugs that actually work. π Precision Delivery: We are finally solving how to get treatments exactly where they need to go, leaving healthy cells untouched. In the past, we were guessing. Today, we are designing. The intelligence is there, and the technology is ready. The only variable left is the speed of funding. π§ͺπ‘οΈ π Your Donation is the Fuel π Cancer Research UK is the world's largest independent cancer research charity. They fund incredible work across 39 countries and have helped develop 8 of the world's top 10 cancer drugs. π Because they receive no government funding, every single breakthrough, every life-saving drug and early detection tool comes from people like you and me. π π¬ What Your Donation Actually Does π¬ Throughout my year-long journey, I'll be sharing real examples of the groundbreaking research your money funds, such as: π Immunotherapy that's turning terminal diagnoses into treatable conditions π Early detection tools that catch cancer when it's most beatable 𧬠Personalised treatments tailored to each patient's unique cancer π‘οΈ Prevention research that's helping us understand what causes cancer in the first place πΆ Children's cancer research: Cancer Research UK is the biggest charitable funder of research into cancers affecting young people in the UK. 𧩠The scientists working on these projects are detectives solving the puzzle of cancer, piece by piece. And they're winning. 𧩠Progress We Can Celebrate π 1970s: Only 1 in 4 people survived cancer for 10 years or more. Today: 2 in 4 survive. Thatβs double the survival rate in just 40 years. π The Goal: 3 in 4 people surviving by 2034. π― The Madudo Story So why am I running 1,000 miles? Because I believe in progress. I believe in research. I believe that every mile matters and every pound donated brings us closer to a day when cancer is no longer the terrifying diagnosis it is today. Ludo and I will be running together throughout 2026 - through sunshine βοΈ, rain π§οΈ, wind π and probably snow βοΈ!! We'll share our journey on Instagram and Facebook, celebrating the small victories, the tough days, and most importantly, the incredible work Cancer Research UK is doing with the funds we raise. πͺ Join Team Madudoπͺ Whether you can spare Β£1 or Β£100, your donation will fund real research with real impact. You're not just supporting a running challenge - you're funding the breakthroughs that will save lives for generations to come. π Together, we will beat cancer π π Thank you for reading this and being part of our journey π Maddy & Ludo πΎ You can follow our journey on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/donate/1251871613437674/
