My Story
My friend is currently undergoing chemo for breast cancer. She was diagnosed earlier this year, when her children were 6 months and 3 years. It is absolutely brutal on her and on her family. No one should have to go through that. Her husband and I are running to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, as her preferred charity, to do what we can to help stop cancer. We first ran the half marathon together 20 years ago, back when we were young 20 year olds. I also ran it 7 years ago, but that was before I had 2 children and was in much better shape than I am now. We both decided it was time to get ourselves back in shape, and to raise money for a worthwhile cause, one close to our hearts, at the same time. The training is so hard - I haven't ran any significant distance since I became pregnant with Sophie in 2011. I have sporadically tried to get back into running, but never made it more than a mile. Training, however, is made easier when I focus on why I am doing this, and how my suffering is nothing compared to what my friend, and all cancer sufferers, are going through. I am fortunate that my employer, Morgan Stanley, is committed to supporting charity and giving back to communities, and will match any sponsorship that I raise. Therefore, every pound that is donated to me, is worth £2 to Cancer Research UK, plus when UK gift aid is taken into account for UK taxpayers, that actually makes it up to £2.25 per £1 donated. As someone who works in Finance, I can confirm - it's a very efficient way of donating money to a worthwhile cause! Cancer is happening right now, which is why I’m raising money right now for Cancer Research UK. There’s no time to lose! Donate to my page today and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. Donating through this page is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with Cancer Research UK.
