My Story
I was diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer in 2018, while working as a full-time carer for my great-grandmother. I’d always had a mole beside my left temple, but after it rapidly changed in appearance, I decided to get it checked by my GP, who fast-tracked me to hospital. When the mole was removed and sent for a biopsy, I was told it hadn’t spread – but a check-up six months later revealed that it had. In December that year, my great-grandmother passed away, and just a few days later I was back in hospital for more surgery to remove cancerous tissue where the mole had been. Now, I’m self-monitoring and working as a registered nurse.
