My Story
In 2006, my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer for the first time. From that time until May of 2020 when she passed away after a 14 year battle, including 2 rounds of brain tumours and various other secondaries, cancer became a huge part of our lives. It ran through everything we did and every decision we made, but we never let it take over. In fact, we made the most of every moment together because of it and because we both knew that one day, a day like May 28th 2020 would come. The life that mum and I lead together was one of no regrets, joy and laughter and I am truly thankful that we had the 16 wonderful years together that we had, and I almost have cancer to thank for that. However, as much as cancer forced us to enjoy every second of each other's time, I wanted to do something to raise money for Breast Cancer Research so that perhaps somebody else can get to have just a bit more time with their mum or loved one than I had, as I understand how important breakthroughs in drugs and medication was to prolonging the time mum had with us. In order to raise money for this cause, which I have set a very ambitious target of £5000 for, I will be walking 40 miles in total over 3 days around the Gower Peninsula, accompanied by some of my friends for parts of the journey (taking place whenever COVID allows, of course). Although I have done my Duke of Edinburgh, this is highly out of my comfort zone as I do enjoy the luxury of my bed but this is the type of active thing I know my mum would encourage me to do, especially for such a good cause. It would be amazing if you have the ability to donate anything at all but if not, a share would suffice!! Thank you Luke
