Lucy's Race for Life

Having regularly volunteered for Cancer Research UK Race for Life for 9 years, I have never actually taken part in an event. I thought it was about time that I changed this! On 15th September, I will be travelling to Oxford with Team Wales to volunteer at the Pretty Muddy event. After a full day of volunteering, I will be taking part in the final wave. This will not be an easy task given that I usually struggle to walk with reduced ankle mobility after just volunteering, but I am determined to do it for this amazingly worthy cause. Why Cancer Research UK? My Grandma was diagnosed with lung cancer and sadly passed away in 2010. This inspired me to find out what I could do to help fight cancer which led to volunteering for several Race for Life events across South Wales. Since this my mother has survived breast cancer, my cousin has survived cervical cancer and unfortunately I lost my grandfather to cancer. I have also had several friends who have both won and lost their battles. Each of these experiences has spurred me on even more to do my bit. The money raised from taking part in this event will help more people like my family and friends to survive this awful disease.
