My Story

In January 2018, my world changed forever when my beautiful mum (‘Fluff’) was diagnosed with incurable cancer. She was to start treatment to stabilise the growth of the cancer and hopefully give her a few more years with intermittent treatment. For the next 7 months, she battled hard, like the brave, strong person I’ve always known her to be, whilst still having a smile on her face. Unfortunately, the cancer had other ideas and on the 18th August 2018, mum passed away suddenly at Forest Holme Hospice, a lot earlier than we expected. This was so hard for us but the best way for mum, knowing she didn’t have to suffer any longer. She had even asked me to defrost her freezer the night before and those of you who knew mum will know that was typical of her and her organisation! I see pictures all the time of people with their mums and my heart breaks a little more. I can’t help but think, ‘why my mum?’, ‘what did she do to deserve this?’ and all of the things in life that she won’t be here for. It devastates me to know that I won’t have her beside me if I get married and my children, if I’m lucky enough to have them, will never meet their grandma. Also, just to be there for the day to day things and for a hug, she gave the best hugs ❤️ . That’s the problem with cancer, it does not discriminate and nobody is safe. I hate it! Since mum died, so many others I know have been affected by cancer. My lovely friend and colleague, Beth, lost her battle in October 2018, leaving behind 2 beautiful children aged 10 and 12. And my friends Kellie and Donna lost their lovely dads Andy and Phil. There is also Phill and David who have been recently diagnosed and are fighting this awful disease. I’m sending all my love and strength your way. This is why I’m doing this walk, to help raise money to find a cure for this horrific disease that affects so many lives. Thank you for reading and visiting my page, it means so much. Go Team Fluff!
