Both Merle and I, along with a majority of the population, have had people close to us affected by cancer. Last year my family unfortunately suffered the loss of my grandfather as a result of his long-term battle, the start of which dated back to before I was born. As such when Merle approached me, very keen to get involved in Race for Life in some way due to her own experience, I went against my usual nature(/exercise avoidance) and agreed to join her in forming Team Merluce. That’s right - I'm actually getting out of bed for once and training to take part in the 5k Race for Life Pretty Muddy event on 30th September this year for Cancer Research UK. That means every penny of money donated will be used to continue to fund their cutting-edge researchers who remain at the forefront of the continuing battle to find a cure.
