My Story
Cancer affects 1 in 2 people! Unfortunately, I have been affected directly and have been lucky enough to fight Leukemia. Cancer Research look at all different cancers, which many of my friends and family have been affected by. I wanted a new challenge for 2020 and signed up to the Brighton 10K run. Baring in mind I can't run 10 meters, this is definitely a challenge; but it is worth it for this fantastic charity! My story: In May 2013 I was diagnosed with Leukemia. This was a massive shock as I had no obvious symptoms other than being very tired and a sore throat. These symptoms persisted for 2 weeks and whereas usually I wouldn't go to the doctors about a sore throat, something didn't feel right and I visited the doctors a couple of times. My local hospital diagnosed that I had Leukemia, and that I would need to start having treatment as soon as possible. Within a few days I was at the Royal Marsden in Sutton where I stayed for 5 weeks whilst having inpatient treatment. The hospital was amazing, always willing to answer any questions I had, kept me informed about what was happening and what will happen, allowed my family and husband to stay at the hospital so I wasn't always alone ... It really is a fantastic hospital! Between June 2013 and September 2015 I continued my chemotherapy treatment as an outpatient. This meant many trips back and forth and some stays in the hospital for a few days at a time. Every time I visited I was made to feel comfortable and welcome. Their care and support is what helped me though the treatment. Thank you in advance for any donations. Love Lora :) xxx!
