My Story

One week to go until Marathon day! I am continuing to train every day in the lead-up to 25th August. Since 26th May, I have walked 1,736,859 steps, climbed 2916 floors and completed a total of 791 miles. I have even worn out the pair of trainers that I purchased at the outset of my training! I have been extremely lucky with my sponsorship. I think so many people saw the impact that Covid-19 has had on CRUK and felt they wanted to help out. I am aiming that by marathon day, the sponsorship will have reached £3000. This will go towards research, which is needed now more than ever. I am still keen for people to support me by doing their own remote miles and getting friends and family to sponsor or donate. So far I know that miles are being walked on The Wirral, Norfolk, Edinburgh, Dorset, Manchester and Cambridgeshire and that list is growing by the day! Julie's Story – On 25th August, 30 years on from hearing the words, ‘It is cancer’ after taking her daughter Kate to hospital, Julie Fisher is undertaking the challenge of walking the distance of a marathon in her local area. Every penny raised will support Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work into sarcoma projects. It is fair to say that COVID-19 has slowed us down, but it hasn’t stopped us; and thanks to everyday people like Julie, we are still striving to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. Julie has supported Cancer Research UK for 26 years, raising £669,000 for sarcoma research, a cause very close to her heart. You can follow her story on here, and also on her Twitter page - @julie_guthrie To support Julie, you can donate below, do a virtual mile with Julie or send in a photograph in memory or celebration of someone that Julie can dedicate a part of her walk to. Together we will beat cancer. You can also text to donate towards Julie’s fundraising. CAUSE

Sarcoma

Sarcomas are cancers that develop from any of the supporting tissues in the body, such as muscle or fat. That means they can develop and grow almost anywhere. Each year around 3,300 people are diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma in the UK – that’s around 9 cases diagnosed every day. Donations can help Cancer Research UK find out what causes them and develop better, kinder treatments to improve the outlook for patients.
