I'm taking part in the Sunderland 10k Race for Life event to raise money to help beat cancer sooner

In memory of

Evelyn Rodger

03 May 1966 - 29 Jun 2016

Thanks for taking time to visit my donation page. I started this page to raise money for Cancer Research UK by participating in the 10k Sunderland Race for Life event on Sunday the 3rd of June 2018.

After taking part in the 5k Race for Life in Middlesbrough last year, I realised how much of an impact Cancer has had on so many people. It was a surreal experience, one that I was proud to be a part of and for that reason, I have decided to step it up and take part in the Race for Life 10k in Sunderland this year. Last year, I ran on what was the first birthday I spent without my Mum and doing this on my birthday brought a little bit of comfort to what was an expected particularly hard day. The support I had last year was fantastic, which I was extremely grateful for during a particularly hard time.

My mum was incredibly selfless and passionate in everything she did. She was an unbelievable mum and she was adored by so many people. She could light up a room full of people with her infectious smile and her witty comments. My mum supported various charities and would often give up what was left of her free time to support these, therefore my decision in participating in the Race for Life again is something that I know my Mum would have been extremely proud of. Last year, the money I raised went to Children with Cancer and Lymphoma Cancer Research. This year, I have decided that any money raised will go completely on Children with Cancer as it is one that my Mum always supported and it is one I will continue to support in her Memory.

On the 29th June this year, it marks two years since we tragically lost our mum and our worlds were torn in two. Kathryn, Alasdair and I were extremely lucky to have had the truly unbelievable mum that we had and although the time we got together was nowhere near enough, as a family we were fortunate enough to call her our Mum and Paul his wife. As a family, we will continue to carry on her legacy together and raise as much money as we can to help find a cure for Cancer in our Mum's name. The money raised will go to help other families who are in a similar situation to what our family faced to hopefully achieve a positive result and help take a step closer to finding the Cure for Cancer.
