In 2020, my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. Despite being in the middle of a pandemic, the doctors and nurses were great and following a series a virtual hospital appointments, she was treated quickly. At the end of 2021, her year post-treatment check-up confirmed that the cancer had thankfully not returned. However, without the knowledge and research available to us today, this could have been a very different story. This year I have, therefore, decided to run a 10k to raise money for Cancer Research. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Cancer survival rates have doubled over the past 40 years. Consistent progress is being made but improvements to technology and ground-breaking work offer new opportunities to find different ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer and improve survival rates even further.
