My Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! In February this year I was diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer. I thought the lump I found would be nothing; a cyst or may be a hormonal lump. Like everyone, I just assumed this sort of thing wouldn’t happen to me, so when I heard those dreaded words “I’m afraid it’s not good news” I fell on the floor, literally! The diagnosis was completely surreal and has turned my family’s life upside down. Throughout this year, I’ve been extremely fortunate to receive care at one of the best cancer hospitals in the world, The Royal Marsden. However, despite positivity and my strong will, the treatment has taken its toll; it’s been gruelling, painful, and emotional. You see, right now chemotherapy drugs can’t just target the cancer cells, they attack every part of your body, including the good cells. This means that chemotherapy leaves you weak, vulnerable and at times, in an awful lot of pain. Children and adults with cancer receive the same treatment; a fact which breaks my heart. Every day we see adverts and people fundraising for cancer research. It’s easy to turn a blind eye; just someone else asking for money, but with 1 in 2 of us likely to get cancer in our lifetime including our children, this is a cause that should be very close to all of us. Cancer Research need our money, to invest more in children’s cancers, make treatments kinder, and find cures. This September, I ran 60 miles to help raise money for Cancer Research UK. It was the first time I’ve run or done any real form of exercise for over eight months, so was a significant challenge. I was undergoing radiotherapy at the same time and running daily back and forth to the hospital. Please do show your support and help fund life-saving research by making a donation to my page. Thank you xx
