My Story
We are fundraising for Cancer Research UK in memory of our dear friends and former Little Downham Cricket Club players, Pete Baker and Nigel “Doss” King. Pete and Doss were much more than just teammates — they were loyal friends, dedicated clubmen, and true characters who brought energy, humour, and heart to everything they did. Both played huge roles in the life of the club over the years, and their love for the game and the people around it made a lasting impact on everyone who knew them. Sadly, we lost Pete and Doss to cancer — a cruel disease that has affected too many families, including our own cricketing family. Their passing has left a deep hole in the club and in our hearts, but we are determined to honour their memory in a meaningful way. As part of our fundraising efforts, we are holding a memorial cricket match on Saturday 13th September. It will be a day to remember Pete and Doss as they would have wanted — with friends, cricket, and a shared commitment to a cause that truly matters. We hope it will bring together players past and present, supporters, family, and the wider community to celebrate their lives and raise vital funds. By supporting Cancer Research UK, we are helping to fund groundbreaking research into the causes, prevention, and treatment of cancer. Every donation brings us closer to a future where fewer lives are lost to this disease. This fundraiser — and the match — are our tribute to Pete and Doss: a celebration of their legacy at Little Downham Cricket Club and a chance to make a real difference in their honour. Thank you for your support.
