My Story
In life you meet people who become a passing memory and there are those that stay with you. Through my daughter I have had the pleasure of meeting an amazing family, who's little boy has inspired myself and several friends to take on this challenge. When we think of hero's we imagine them to be older, wiser, someone who has inspired or made an impact on our lives. I would like to introduce you to a little boy who at 19 months of age has become one of my hero's, an inspiration Arnie Lane. Parents Alex & Richard welcomed Arnie to the world 27 November 2015, arriving 7 weeks early, with a post-natal diagnosis of Down's Syndrome, a large hole in the heart and a special type of leukaemia found only in children with Down's Syndrome. At just 3 weeks of age Arnie received chemotherapy treatment, which cleared the leukaemia, but the family were told that there was still a 50% chance that it may return. After this Arnie endured open heart surgery had many admissions to intensive care and after spending many months in hospital Arnie finally arrived home 12 September 2016. After spending 7 months at home, Arnie's family received the heartbreaking news that the leukaemia had returned and is currently undergoing 6 months of chemotherapy treatment. He has just completed his 2nd round. This little boy should not be fighting this awful disease, he should be at home enjoying life like any other 19 month old. He has captured my heart and the hearts of many others too, due to his fighting spirit, strength and resilience. He also has the most amazing smile!! So, I ask you to please join me in raising money, so that Arnie and many others like him do not have to fight this battle anymore. Children and cancer should never be in the same sentence.
