My Story
Cancer Research UK was formed 20 years ago, in 2002. However, the history goes back much further though to 1902, with the founding of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund. Thanks to supporters like you, our pioneering work into how to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer has benefitted millions of lives over the past 120 years. Over the last 40 years, cancer survival in the UK has doubled. In the 1970s just 1 in 4 people survived their disease for 10 years or more. Today 2 in 4 survive. The ambition is to accelerate progress and see 3 in 4 patients surviving the disease by 2034. Without this research not to be overly dramatic but I would not be here and I feel like I want to do something at least once a year to try to give back and help an organisation that has helped me. Last year I ran 2 miles every day in September and this year for some bonkers reason I have decided to ‘run’ the Robin Hood Half marathon in September 2022. I signed up for it in January this year with the yeah it’ll be alright 9 months of training I’ll be fine. 9 months of training has not been happening. I am pretty comfy running about 5.5 miles so only another 8 miles to go with 3 months to go. I’ll get there but I am going have to be working harder at it than I have been. If you do fancy donating a quid or so in the fundraisers direction that would be fabulous please and would be very much appreciated. Come along and cheer me on, on 25th September and watch a very pink faced Lisa jog at a leisurely pace. I have running shoes now I must mean business 😉
