My Story
Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life 10k to raise money and save lives. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. About 1 in 8 women are diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. There's a good chance of recovery if it's detected in its early stage. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please sponsor me now. I think most people go through life thinking 'cancer won't affect me' or 'I don't know anyone who has cancer'. I know I did. Until I received a text from my best friend to say she'd found a lump. And then the following week a phone call confirming she'd been diagnosed with breast cancer. She's 36. She's still young, a newly qualified teacher and planning her wedding for next year. But cancer doesn't care about that. Cancer can affect anyone at any time. Now Stacey has to face this challenge that life has thrown her. And she's such a strong woman, that I know she can get through this. She has the support of her partner, her family, and even though there's 50 miles separating us, I'm only a phone call away. To show my support to Stacey I decided I'd sign up for this year's Race for Life. It's going to be hard. I am in no way athletic - I won't even run for a bus! In fact, I have maintained for many years that I am 'allergic to exercise'. But this is my challenge, while she faces hers. And I hope in the process I'll be able to raise a bit of money and awareness. Ladies...Check your boobs!!! Donating through this page is simple, fast and totally secure.
