Linda's 10 Peak Challenge

My Story

To celebrate our 10th anniversary, our Chief Executive, Dr Linda Harris, will be attempting ’10 Peaks in 10 Days’ starting June 18th What is the 10 Peaks Challenge? The Ten Peaks Challenge is a 17- mile guided walking challenge through the beautiful Lake District, taking in some of the UK’s highest peaks over 10 days. It’s a fantastic way to explore some of England’s most scenic countryside and attracts hundreds of tourists and walking groups each year. The types of walking challenge (and the prices) vary, but all volunteers need to have a reasonable level of physical fitness as the route involves sharp inclines and steep descents over rocky terrain. Linda says, “I’m doing the Ten Peaks Challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK and to promote our fantastic 10- Year campaign. Having said I was ‘up for a challenge’ this year, I have had to start training. Those who know me know that I don’t go to the gym and I don’t play a sport. I have also never really been able to do fitness videos or engage with the myriad of exercise gurus on the internet … I am not fit! I would welcome some company every day as I am going to need lots of help and encouragement! Please come and join me in charting your training and sharing any tips that work for you, keep you motivated and work for climbing hills.” You can sign up to walk with Linda on 1 or all 10 walks here: The peaks featured in Linda’s ‘Ten Peaks’ challenge are: Friday 18/06/21 Blencathra 868 M Saturday 19/06/21 Scafell 964 M Sunday 20/06/21 Old Man of Conniston 802 M Monday 21/06/21 Skiddaw 931 M Tuesday 22/06/21 Bowfell 902 M Wednesday 23/06/21 Great Gable 899 M Thursday 24/06/21 Great End 910 M Friday 25/06/21 Nethermost Pike 891 M Saturday 26/06/21 Helvellyn 950 M Sunday 27/06/21 Scafell Pike 978 M You can find out more information on the challenge and each walk here:
