My Story
Why I’m Running to Beat Cancer 1 in 2 people will hear the words “you have cancer” in their lifetime. For me, this statistic isn’t just a number – it’s my Grandma and Granddad, and countless others I hold close. Like so many families, mine has felt the weight of this disease, and that’s why I’m lacing up my trainers for Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life. As a cardiovascular scientist and former cancer researcher I’ve seen firsthand how every penny donated fuels real progress. In the lab, I’ve studied potential new therapies, watched breakthroughs unfold, and understood the tireless work that turns donations into hope. CRUK’s funding doesn’t just save lives; it powers the science that gives families more time together. This year’s 5K is personal. Last year, I naively attempted the Cambridge 10K with zero training and it was brutal. But crossing that finish line (eventually!) lit a fire in me. This time, I’ve traded impulsiveness for preparation, following the Couch to 5K plan to make sure every step counts. Together, We Can Outrun Cancer • £10 could help fund a clinical trial for kinder treatments. • £25 might support vital lab equipment to unravel cancer’s secrets. • Every penny, no matter how much, brings us closer to a cure. I’m running for my grandparents. For the patients behind the data I’ve analyzed. For the future we’re all fighting for. Please sponsor me today – let’s make cancer history.
