My Story
In July 2012 our lives changed forever, when our mom - the enigmatic; life loving, warm, generous, ever so slightly crazy force to be reckoned with - passed away. It was the end of an 11 month battle she fought, with all her might but ultimately lost, to lung cancer. Cancer, the word no one wants to hear and yet so many of us deal with every day. Watching our wonderful mom go through the worst a person should have to and not win the war against this awful disease, was harrowing. We watched our warrior of a mother endure round after round of chemo, radiation and other new drugs on the market. Each round taking a way just a little more of her spirit. As we write this there are others we know and love who are now facing a similar battle. Whilst we hope and pray they will not have the same experience as she did, we recognise we need to do more. Cancer isn't going to fight itself. Research takes time and a lot of money. So that is why the three of us girls, our mom's legacy, are taking to the streets. One of us runs marathons, another runs half marathons and the third can barely walk down the street. Together we will take care of one another as we power through 26 miles together. Yes, that is 26 miles to walk - which will take us (hopefully) around 8 hours. 8 hours of walking, at night and 8 hours of trying to keep our spirits up and make conversation, hopefully not irritating each other too much in the process! We are in training, and finding time to walk for 6 hours once a week is really tough - but it wouldn't be worth a fundraiser if it were easy, would it?! For those of you who are interested, feel free to keep up with my training schedules via my blog: https://walklikeawoolf.blogspot.com/
