My Story

Hi, Here is my journey and why I am helping to raise money for cancer. Around 18 months ago my Mum got diagnosed with cancer in the left eye - it was the most insane experience and journey any of my family have ever been through. At the time I had begun the final steps of my master's degree and I remember the day my parents walked in and said we have bad news, and they informed me with tears that my mum had been diagnosed with Lymphoma, - it did not hit me but eventually I began asking the questions and I had realized what was going on. Weeks had gone by and doctors and specialists had informed us of the rocky road my mum would go through and how important being positive is, months in hospitals, possibly 2 days a month at home, it was insane considering how quickly this happened. As taking mum to the hospital was tough with our schedules I was on the verge of suspending my degree but I remember my parents said no matter what happens you can’t quit now you’re too far in, but the concentration was lacking but I decided to carry on as i remember my mum half awake saying giving up is for losers, even if you do not pass you won for me. So every day I would drive around 40 miles to the hospital to sit by my mum and just work till the early hours on my degree, every day for around 6 months. I watched my mum deteriorate and it was the worst feeling in the world but the motivation to do well was there because making someone proud was extremely important . Many weeks went on and my mum recovered and got back on her feet and stood proudly at my masters ceremony, but the important message here is many mothers (and others) out here during these 6 months did not survive and this terrible condition took over, many children never got to see their mother clap their hands at graduation or kiss them with intense happiness - my mum survived but many didn’t. My family, friends and I are doing a bike ride (I haven’t ridden a bike since 12😂) to help those in need - to beat this condition and help other people be with their loved ones once again. The importance of having your mother by your side at graduation has no words. The smile on our faces said it all, not only did I receive my master's degree but most importantly my mum picked her self up from hospital held her head high and said, well-done son. Let’s do this together and beat cancer for all ❤️

CAUSE

Lymphoma

Survival rates for many types of lymphoma has increased significantly – now, twice as many people survive non-Hodgkin lymphoma as in the 1970s. And four out of five people will survive Hodgkin's lymphoma, compared to fewer than half of patients in the 1970s. Help Cancer Research UK improve effective treatments and survival with your donation.
