My Story

As most of you who know me can confirm, I'm not one to volunteer for long periods of exercise! Too many people I know and love have been affected by cancer, and this is one small way I can make a difference. Did I say small? 26.2 miles is hardly small - so I am hoping that each and every one of my friends, colleagues and acquaintances will appreciate my sacrifice of a cosy Saturday night at home, and dig deep for this worthy cause. Luckily, I'm not alone in my crazed quest - my equally crazy work colleagues are joining me. We're planning on providing regular updates / photos, and perhaps the odd training update (you never know!). Update 23/08/17 the team are planning on a 19.1 mile walk Bank holiday weekend to test ourselves in advance of the actual event... wish us luck.. reward will be a pub lunch at the end and hopefully no blisters Remember: £26 or £1 per mile of the full marathon, buys nutrients for cells to grow them in the lab, allowing scientists to find out more than ever before about cancer. £260 - the amount we ask each of you to raise, covers the cost of a trial for a day to test new combinations of drugs, to improve treatments for more dads, sons, brothers and grandfathers with prostate cancer. £550 - buys a pH meter to create the ideal environment for sensitive experiments which could hold clues to finding new ways to beat cancer, sooner. £120k - when we all come together, every £120,000 we raise will cover the cost of a trial for a year to find new ways to treat breast cancer more effectively by testing the benefits of hormone therapy before surgery. Each year Cancer Research UK’s scientists get closer to beating cancer, and they’ve helped double survival rates in the last 40 years. But we can’t stop there.
