My Story
I’ve entered the Simplyhealth Great North Run 2019 to raise awareness of the excellent work Cancer Research UK do and on a more personal note For my Dad. Dad was diagnosed with cancer for the first time in July 2018. He was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and underwent an operation to have the cancer removed and all was well. Later we found out dad had high grade non hodgkin lymphoma. He underwent lengthy chemotherapy treatment and finished his last session on New Years Eve. Throughout this time he continued working, kept his spirits and all of ours high! Never a negative comment made. In January we started the year knowing his cancer was under control 🙌 no more treatment needed! I signed up to do the The Simplyhealth Great North Run 2019. August 2019... after months of waiting dad is diagnosed a third time with Prostate cancer. Training now comes with a different mindset... Its difficult to say how I will feel when I cross the finish line, I know that I am going to feel so proud and delighted that I have done it for my Dad. He was there at the finish line the first time I completed the GNR and I can't wait to see his face when I cross that line again! Cancer has touched so many lives and is important for me to tell a story about my Dad who has been so strong throughout it all and for him to know it's ok to talk about the big C word. I want him to be proud of how far he has come because we are all so proud of him. Its been an emotional rollercoaster from diagnosis, then finding out we have another diagnosis to deal with. We now must believe again!
