My Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. This September, I’m running/walking 60 miles to help raise money for Cancer Research UK. As most of you know, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in December 2020. I had surgery in January 2021. I had two rounds of egg harvesting to protect my fertility (as my cancer treatment will put me into the menopause) and I am currently three quarters of the way through chemotherapy. (Hence why I am most likely going to be doing some walking instead of running!) I will then have radiotherapy and ten years of hormonal therapy (including 3 years of monthly injections). Even though a lot of money goes into research for Breast Cancer, and I am grateful for the fantastic treatment I have received so far, there still is so much more that needs to be done to prevent/cure this awful disease and in particular, research into better treatment options for Secondary Breast Cancer. 30% of primary breast cancers turn into metastatic/secondary breast cancer (where it is incurable) and often this is many years after treatment has ended. There are around 11,500 breast cancer deaths in the UK every year, that's 32 every day. Also, sadly, my cousin passed away from cancer in May this year. She was only 43 and desperately tried to fight this awful disease. So please, if you can spare anything, make a donation ❤️ If you want to follow my cancer journey, I’ve got a blog on Instagram @breastcancerandlittleoldme
