My Story
On 3rd October 2021 I will be running the London Marathon for Cancer Research UK. Many of you may know, in 2012 my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. She went through chemotherapy and radiotherapy over 8 months with her last round of radiotherapy 31st December 2012. We saw in the new year with excitement for a happy and healthy new year. However, cancer had other plans for us again. As my mum was beginning to get over her treatment, my dad was diagnosed with throat cancer. He had radiotherapy alongside small doses of chemotherapy. As you can imagine, our family had a very gruelling 2 years while my parents were having their treatment and recovering but luckily they have both made full recoveries, while still having yearly check ups. Without the research that Cancer Research does, I don’t believe my parents would have made the recovery that they did. I am running this marathon in memory of Paul Davis. Our family first met Paul 14 years ago, when we moved on to the same street. He and his wife Bridie became close friends with my parents and they spent many occasions, coffees and drinks with our family. Sadly, Paul was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and after a long battle he peacefully passed away on 28th November with his family around him. Paul was a kind and funny man, and he will always be remembered for his sense of humour and amazing stories. He always looked out for me and was always interested to hear and listen to my travel stories. He had a long and wonderful life and will be deeply missed. I was honoured to of had him in my life the last 14 years ❤️ This will be my 4th marathon, although I’ve never been a hugely fit and active person. I’ve always had a slimmer build and a lot of times that’s been mistaken for being fit and healthy, and for me, that hasn’t always been the case. Over the years, I’ve struggled to motivate myself to go for a run or go to the gym because I’d never have the end goal or the reason why I was doing it. So in 2016 I decided I needed a goal and it needed to be big and exciting. I then decided that a marathon was the biggest thing I could think of applied for my first marathon with Cancer Research, as this charity has always been close to my heart. Flash forward to now I’m now attempting my 4th marathon and my second one for Cancer Research! I’m super excited! In 2017 I ran the London Marathon for Cancer Research and I raised £4500!! I’ll be aiming to beat this total and raise £5500 over the next 9 months. I don’t normally give myself a time to finish in, mainly because I don’t normally give myself enough training time and I’m normally just happy to get across that finish line! But this time I will be aiming for 4.5 hours as I have ample time too train! Cancer is happening right now, which is why I’m raising money for Cancer Research UK. There’s no time to lose! Donate to my page today and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
