My Story

The Nucleus team are raising money for cancer research in loving memory of Sharon Wignall, who sadly lost her long and courageous battle with cancer in November 2025 after fighting for five years. After a series of misdiagnoses in 2019 and 2020, Sharon was eventually diagnosed with tonsil cancer. Over the course of her five-year battle, the cancer later spread to her liver and other areas. Sharon was the most positive cancer patient you could ever meet. She always tried to see the positive side of a bad situation and managed to keep a brave face—not only for herself, but for her friends and family who were going through this journey with her. Along the way, she overcame every obstacle and continued to fight for as long as she possibly could. Even at a point when she was given just three days to live in September 2025, a week later she miraculously walked out of the hospice and went home, where she was able to spend an extra month with her family—she wasn’t ready to say goodbye just yet. Many people will be affected by cancer in their lifetime, either by having the disease themselves or knowing a loved one who is affected by it. Being affected by cancer can completely turn your life upside down, with countless hospital appointments, scans, blood tests and procedures—and watching someone go through all of it is just as devastating. Raising money for cancer research means we are getting closer to earlier detection and better treatments, which can lead to more positive outcomes for those diagnosed. In Sharon’s case, if she had been properly diagnosed in the first place, she may still have been here today. Sharon truly was an incredible inspiration, and those who knew her as a friend, family member or colleague will understand how strong she was. It is an honour to raise money in memory of such an amazing woman and for such an important cause.
