My Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. This March, I’m walking 10,000 steps a day throughout the month to help beat cancer. I developed bone cancer whilst serving in Northern Ireland with the Army Air Corps over 50 years ago and after 18 months I was able to return to flying albeit without an ankle joint. In the past 50 years there has been a great advance in the prognosis of the type of cancer that I had but so much more needs to be done. Now aged 77, and four replacement knee joints later, and on a very long list for a new hip, I was delighted when CRUK came up with this fund raising idea. I have never been able to participate in fun runs and the like (though my 4 grandchildren and their parents have). Both my daughter and my daughter-in-law have run the London Marathon for cancer related charities so I feel I have somewhat avoided the physical side of fundraising. I have attended many CRUK Coffee Mornings, Bring & Buy events and Bridge Competitions but I don’t really feel that I have made a personal effort. I will be doing my 10,000+ steps mainly cross-country in North Cornwall across the beaches and sand dunes and around the coastal paths. I hope to be accompanied by my Black Labrador (also in her canine 70s) but her arthritis is even worse than mine so she might have to take a few days off. For years my children have always said that I can only climb and descend hills clockwise but now I also need a stick when out walking cross-country and two of them in the recent high winds. I believe we can all play our part to support the research that will beat it. Help me Walk All Over Cancer and fund life-saving research by making a donation to my page. 🇺🇦Slava Ukraini🇺🇦
