Kerry's Race for Life
Derby Pretty Muddy 5k 2019
Sat 29 Jun 2019 - Sat 29 Jun 2019
Cancer is happening right now in our family and one of those affected is our son Dylan, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life Pretty Muddy to raise money and save lives. Diagnosed with an extremely rare immune system Cancer that attacked his lungs in early 2016 after he suffered multiple lung collapses and respiratory failure, Dylan defied all odds and fought back from the brink to become a survivor! Because the type of Cancer that Dylan has is so rare, he was treated as a unique case based on previous clinical trials and new data which can only come from research. Dylan’s type of Cancer can not be ‘cured’ or go into remission at present as it is caused by a genetic accident during his cells copying in the womb. He is currently classed as having ‘Non Active Disease’ but maybe one day with more research they can identify the remaining genes that cause this and look into inhibitors which are working great for some patients, who have the most common gene mutations. Dylan does not have one of the gene mutations that has been identified yet, but maybe one day they will discover it. At present Chemotherapy is the main treatment used in patients with his type of Cancer, to stop the body producing faulty immune system cells in response to infection or injury. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please sponsor me now.
