1 in 2 people will develop cancer at some point in their lives...scary statistic isn't it? But one that you don't quite get until it happens to you... At 38 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, grade 3 with one of the tumours being 8cm...that's big!! I didn't 'fit' any into any of the at risk categories...no family history, not over weight, don't really drink, never smoked, exercised and had breast fed both my girls. Yet here I was facing this huge battle. And yes, that's exactly what it has been. 6 sessions of chemotherapy, 2 of which led to me being hospitalised, first ride in ambulance at 2am, 2 operations, 1 being 8 hours long, 1 an emergency operation, 15 sessions of radiotherapy in Leeds (I drove myself there and then to work) I have remained working throughout only having 35 days off in total. People that have known have thought I'm bonkers. All I've craved is to be 'normal' when my life has been anything but. My family and some very close friends have kept me sane. Carrying on is something that you have no option in when you are a mum to two very young girls. They have shown more understanding than I thought possible. I've still no idea if any of this has been successful but I do know I will not give up. That is my reason for running. This is my story x
