In memory of
Grumpy and Penny
I’ve had 4 family members have cancer. When I was just a child my Nanna and Grumpy both had cancer. My Nanna thankfully survived but sadly my Grumpy didn’t. It was heart breaking to know I was never going to see him again, to see the effects it had on his loved ones. When I was in year 9 at high school I met my dads mother, Penny, for the first time in my life. I only had the pleasure of knowing her for a few years as she was diagnosed with cancer. I cried for hours when I found out but I had to be strong for my family. Visiting was hard, she could no longer move about, she’d lost so much weight and colour. She was so pail. I remember getting the phone call, she’d passed away. I felt numb. Once again last year another family member was diagnosed with cancer, my aunt. Thankfully she survived. Sadly too many people die every year from cancer. I’m racing for them all, for everyone and their family’s

Consistent progress is being made but improvements to technology and ground-breaking work offer new opportunities to find different ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer and improve survival rates even further.
