My Story
Cancer is something I care about deeply because it first touched my family when I was just a child. When I was 7 years old, my mum was diagnosed with tongue cancer at the age of 38; the age I am right now. It was one of the hardest times of my life. I still remember me and my brother sitting in the car outside the hospital while my dad helped Mum to the window so we could wave at her from very far away. We weren’t allowed to see her in person during her radiotherapy. Being separated from her felt unbearable. Every night I would cry into one of her jumpers, just to feel close to her through her smell. Thankfully, my mum made it through, but since then many of my friends and relatives have faced cancer too. Some battles have been won, some heartbreakingly lost, and some are still ongoing. The reality is that 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. This is why research is so vital. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work. On September 20th, I’ll be walking 21km (13 miles) through London at night with my friends.
