David Blake

My Story

I’m taking part in the Shine Night Walk to honour and celebrate the life of my beloved son David. Amie is walking with me to celebrate the life of her ‘broski’. And Sam is coming to celebrate the life of his good friend. David loved his life! And his friends and family around the world loved him! But David had the condition neurofibromatosis type 1, and just over a year ago he died from a rare cancer as a result of that condition. He had just celebrated his 30th birthday. My husband Colin and I decided that we would do 30 things to celebrate the 30 years that we were blessed to have David with us, and this is one of those 30 events. In the words of one of his special friends David was ‘a computer genius, a fan of obscure anime, an avid reader and surgically attached to his trademark leather jacket’ (see photo in gallery!!). [WALK POSTPONED DUE TO YORK FLOOD - sadly on rearranged date I'm in the air over the Atlantic!] [POST WALK UPDATE: CONGRATULATIONS to Sam and Amie (and their very tired feet) AKA 'Team David' who walked the postponed 10k Shine Night walk in York on Friday night while I was over the Atlantic. And an amazing thank you to Jared and Laura who pulled off an amazing surprise creative technical feat by launching 10,000 twinkling stars onto the City Walls and into the sky. - and of course thank you to Colin as team support who probably walked 10k in all his to-ing and fro-ing. These are just some of the photos that kept me 'in the loop' from afar - Colin will share more no doubt. The great news is that to date 'Team David' raised £240 for Cancer Research into rare cancers like the cancer David had. Thanks to all those who made this possible (but if anyone who donated has an issue that I couldn't participate do let me know)]
