My Story
I will be walking 5k with my pacer for Jack Edwards and my Grandad. This for me is a challenge having not walked since 2011 but compared to the challenges they faced it's going to be a walk in the park! (Literally!) and for Jack with challenges come smiles :) My Grandad battled lung cancer and became a star who shines on me every night, and Jack also taken far too soon. I have seen the battle Jack faced he became a star at the age of 7 still smiling! Having fought Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) at 3 he went into remission then it shown it's ugly head again when he was 6. My Grandad has always been a massive part of my life growing up, he taught me so much. As his cancer progressed he started getting weaker, relying on oxygen, losing his dignity and starting chemotherapy. Not long after starting chemotherapy he also lost the battle from a heart attack. I am doing the Race for life for both Jack and my Grandad. I have had my accident since my Grandad has passed. I sustained a hemiplegia (weak left side) after an accident in 2011 and since haven't walked, I am now walking short distances with a pacer which gives a lot of body support but I still need to walk to move. Walking 5k for me is a massive challenge. But in comparison nothing compared to the challenges that Jack, my Grandad or others battle with on a daily basis. Please sponser me however much you can, your penny will help people fighting cancer and those needing support. £20 covers the cost of running Cancer Chat for one hour £30 is the cost of running a cervical cancer trial for one day £80 buys a bunsen burner which can help our scientists to ignite ground-breaking research £300 can pay for special chemicals called antibodies, to light up microscopic parts of the cell.
