My Story

Five years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. This was devastating news for me, my family, friends and colleagues and was the start of a year of sometimes gruelling treatment. Nothing is all bad and along the way I met many amazing people: some providing treatment and advice, some offering support and many undergoing treatment along with me. With the love and support from family, friends and colleagues I was able to get through this difficult year. Once treatment was complete I started on an exercise programme to help my recovery and I'm pretty much back to full health. My daughter asked recently if I'd like to take part in this walk on my birthday. Not the usual offer of a birthday treat..... I considered it for a few minutes and thought why not! Five years from initial diagnose I am still here and fit enough to undertake this challenge. Without the generosity of people who donate to cancer research this might not be the case. I am extremely grateful for everything that has been done for me on this journey and I am pleased to be able to give something back. It will be a special occasion to walk alongside my daughter Julie and granddaughter Caitlin who have been through the journey with me. Please help me and my Walkie Talkies to raise as much as possible to beat this terrible disease - every little helps. Thank you for your support xx Each year Cancer Research UK’s scientists get closer to beating cancer, and they’ve helped double survival rates in the last 40 years. But we can’t stop there. Only with our continued support can they turn this research into breakthroughs that save millions of lives. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please sponsor me now. Donating through this page is simple, fast and totally secure. CAUSE

Breast cancer

With almost 140 women diagnosed every day, breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. And, although rarer, around 350 men are also diagnosed with breast cancer every year. The good news is more than two-thirds of women now survive 20 years or more. Help Cancer Research UK find new ways to diagnose and treat the disease.
