My Story
In November 2011, while I was pregnant with my first child, my dad was referred to the hospital after some routine tests by his GP. He was then referred to the Beatson Cancer Centre in Glasgow. I can remember thinking "well, you don't get referred to the Beatson for no reason!". And I was right. He was diagnosed with bowel cancer shortly after that. The cancer had come out of his bowel and gone into his liver - he had stage 4 liver cancer. He fought cancer tooth & nail going through extensive chemotherapy and always staying positive. "It's better to learn to dance in the rain, than to wait for the storm to pass" For a while, it looked like the chemo was working and his liver was healing however it wasn't. The massive shadow on his liver was actually damaged liver and there was nothing they could do. My daughter decided that she had to arrive earlier than planned and was born 4 weeks early on 13th March 2012. My mum & dad were with me as Jon was working away from home. I'll never forget the way my dad's face lit up every time he saw our beautiful baby daughter, Hannah and I often wonder if she came early for a reason. He was told on 22nd May 2012 that "it was a matter of weeks" however he died 5 days later on my mum's birthday, approximately 6 months after diagnosis. Hannah was 9 weeks old. My son, Matthew, my dad's living image, was born on 24th May 2016 a year after my mum died from heart disease. I am doing this race for life to raise money for Cancer Research so that no other grandchildren have to grow up not knowing their grandparents and so that grandparents can get to know their grandchildren. My dad only knew Hannah for a short time and didn't get to meet Matthew at all. Please, please help me to raise a massive amount of money - you know it's greatly appreciated.
