My Story

On 22nd June 2022 I was told I had breast cancer. I thought it was the worst day of my life. It turned out it wasn’t… My story so far: 6 months of chemo 2 x DVT’s (blood clots) Hundreds of injections Lumpectomy, Sentinel Node Biopsy & therapeutic mammoplasty Axillary node clearance Still to come: Radiotherapy – 15 rounds 10 years of hormone therapy to help prevent the cancer coming back Therapeutic mammoplasty (Half a boob job - the other side!) Hysterectomy We’ve poked a lot of fun at my cancer – it’s made things a lot more bearable & it always helps to be positive! When I had my first lot of surgery I would tell people I’d had half a boob job as I could only afford to get one done at a time! The look on their faces was priceless!  Life turned completely upside down on April 4th 2023 when I went to the hospital with Dad & he was told he had Stage 4 advanced cancer which wasn’t treatable. Dad hadn’t been feeling too well for a few months but none of us, even dad, were expecting to be told that. It broke my heart. Dad’s getting weaker, he doesn’t have long left and we are doing our best to look after him at home alongside work, my treatment and everything else that is going on. Life is pretty tough at the moment but we’re still smiling…….most of the time. So, on 23rd September 2023 I will be doing the Shine Night Walk for Cancer Research Half Marathon. I’m not sure where I’ll be up to with my next lot of operations etc. but I will be giving it a go whatever the situation! 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. I hope it’s not you or someone you love. I’ve been very well looked after by the NHS and I’m very lucky to have a fantastic surgeon. It’s thanks to charities like Cancer Research UK that treatments have come on so far over the years. If you have a spare pound to donate to Cancer Research UK’s ground breaking work it could make a huge difference to someone’s life. Please donate to my Giving Page and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
