In memory of
My Dad, Ricky Friend
7th May 1947 - 2nd Jul 2019
Many of you know that my Dad recently passed away from his battle with Lung Cancer. He was diagnosed just over 2 and a half years ago, just before his wife Bernice came to the end of her long battle with Breast Cancer. Right after Bernice's funeral my Dad started his treatment with an operation to remove part of his left lung at Guys hospital, followed by Chemo. He was given the all clear not long after. Several months after that we had learned that it had come back again, thus starting radiotherapy over the course of early summer 2018. We had learned from this that it was reduced but wasn't completely gone and probably never would. He had so many medications, along with his COPD was struggling to breathe quite often. He kept getting chest infections and a couple of admission into hospital since the radiotherapy ended. Dad was told earlier this year that his cancer had developed into his right hand lung along with his left. Dad died very soon after this news, a matter of a couple of months. Callum and I have chosen to do this Marathon together in memory of my Dad, for his Nanny Bernice, for Auntie Julie and the grandparents I have lost to Cancer. As many people know Callum had a Kidney Transplant not so long ago so this will be a challenge in the true sense of the word, for us both. Emotionally and physically. Any donation helps and encourages our every step to get to the 26 miles. My page targets Lung Cancer specifically, and Callum's covers all cancers, we don't care which one you donate to it all goes to a good cause. Each year Cancer Research UK’s scientists get closer to beating cancer, and they’ve helped double survival rates in the last 40 years. But we can’t stop there. Only with our continued support can they turn this research into breakthroughs that save millions of lives. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please sponsor me now.
