My Story
Hi, this is very personal to me as 3 months ago my sister Sylvia was diagnosed with bladder cancer at 62. Now those that know me will realise this was at the first anniversary of my other sister Christine's death on the day of the first National Lockdown. Sylvia and I are still grieving her loss and as you can imagine hearing this awful news was not the best! Sylvia is a very private person and doesn't want her business bandied about, doesn't do Facebook or any social media, but I asked her permission to send this request to various people I knew, so I could raise some money. Sylvia has been through 2 operations and chemotherapy over the past 3 months and continues to receive life saving treatment. It has been tough for her, her husband Henry and the family. I have felt useless, angry, upset, BUT wanted to do something, to feel as though I could help in some small way, so decided to raise money for “the research” as we know that research is the key to unlocking and beating this awful disease (As Covid has shown). These days I cant run much, my new hip gave me a bit of a leg length discrepancy, BUT I can walk, and walk 10K I shall! Lynne is doing this with me, and we are doing it for Sylvia and all of those other women and men out there suffering from this cruel disease. Please, if you can spare a quid, it will spur Lynne and I on and put a spring in our step to help us finish this 10K. This walk is in October so it will highly likely be cold and wet but it certainly wont be miserable. We will SHiNE BRIGHT with glow sticks, fairy lights and everything in between!! Come and support us if you wish! We are doing this for my BRAVE sis, whose world has been turned upside down, to help raise funds for others like her, and to feel as though we have helped in some tiny small miniscule way. Sobering thought is that 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s ground breaking work. Donate to my Giving Page today and help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. Cheers Karen & Lynne xxx Update 2/9/21: Sylvia is shortly to go through a "Radical Cystectomy" which is the removal of the bladder, uterus, ovaries, part of her internal "lady bits", lymph nodes and a section of her bowel.(hopefully by end of September). We are even more determined to complete this in aid of this charity! Dig deep folks! I am scared for her but Sylvia said to me the other day - "If it's a choice between living or dying, I choose to live!".....
