Too many lives are affected by this horrible disease. I'm raising funds to help beat it sooner.

In memory of

Gerald Brown and many others

My Story

Unfortunately, we all come across the “Big C” at some point in our lives. Last year it touched the lives of a couple of friends of ours more than we would ever have imagined. Kim and Gerald had been married almost 18 years. They have two children: a son, Aiden, 15 years; and a daughter, Maisy, 10 years. In December 2016, Gerald (“Gee”) was diagnosed with bowel cancer. He had an operation. After 6 weeks of chemotherapy, and following a scan, Gee was told it had returned, back on his lung. So, in June 2017, he underwent another operation, to remove the tumour. Kim and Gerald were told the operation was successful, and Gerald returned home on the Saturday. Here comes the horrible addition to the story – on the Monday, Kim had to go into hospital for a lumpectomy, as she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Kim and Gerald were doing great, until September 2017, when Gee started to suffer pains in his back and leg. He returned to hospital for a CT scan in October and was unfortunately told that the cancer had spread to his bones and they could do no more for him. He went into a hospice. Whilst continuing with being a mother to Aiden and Maisy, Kim continued with chemotherapy and radiotherapy for her breast cancer – to this day, all is looking good. Gee never saw Christmas 2017 with his family as he sadly passed away in November, aged 46. Two years ago Kim joined me and our team, Dirty Divas, and ran Pretty Muddy … we never would’ve thought that she would have to face this sadness afterwards. Whilst her treatment has been successful, she is now having to undergo bone strengthening treatments later this year. Kim will be there on 16th June to cheer us on. Gee-Force will run for Kim and Gerald, and for all the other people sadly touched by this horrible disease.
