My Story
Post event update: - - - > Manchester marathon done! With a time I am genuinely proud of, 3:49:43, not a PB but would still qualify as GFA for London! But even more impressively, my little brother Mark had an absolutely storming run and beat us by over a minute on his first ever marathon!! I am seriously impressed and proud of what he's achieved!!! Manchester was bloody brilliant, the atmosphere around the course was fab with some awesome landmarks and support. I absolutely fell to pieces after 20miles, I've never experienced foot pain like it but I battled on, mainly thanks to my amazing wingman Matt, without whom I would have given up and walked the last 10k. There were lots of tears at the end, I'm just so happy and proud to be here today doing what I love, and starting to move on with my life. Not too shabby for 6 weeks after surgery, although I def wouldn't recommend running a marathon on minimal training and injury! Thankyou so much for your support, I've been blown away by your generosity 💗 ---------------💗💗💗-------------- A year after my breast cancer diagnosis brought my world to a standstill, I will be making my big come-back at Manchester Marathon 2023! With me on the run will be running legend, Matt King, and my brother, Mark Lewry, who is doing his first ever marathon! Comeback video ----> I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never gonna keep me down!! Video now live on YouTube... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cybz3GO9oeI My friends and family will know that I've been no stranger to long distance running, but after an intense, roller-coaster year of surgeries, chemo, radiotherapy and various ongoing hormone drugs, running a marathon has now become a pretty big deal for me and also a chance to try and get back a bit of me! Your support for me and this excellent charity will certainly keep me going while I attempt to get back into some serious marathon training in the coming months. I'm honoured to be running for Cancer Research, not only for my own personal cancer experiences but also in memory of those we've lost and for those who are yet to find themselves on this road. With more research, more people can have a better chance of continuing to live their best lives. There's been a few bumps in the road in my training plan as I had to have an enforced break to have my ovaries removed and now have a stubborn case of plantar fascitis! At this rate if I complete this marathon it will be a minor miracle! But I'm spurred on by everyone's support and am determined to get through it!! Much love and always #CheckYourBits!! Karen xxx Cancer is happening right now, which is why I’m raising money right now for Cancer Research UK. There’s no time to lose!
