My Story
Three years ago my daughter Natalie and I took part in the Shine Walk, walking 26 miles around the streets of London to raise money for Cancer Research UK. I seem to recall when we crossed the finish line we said "never again", but here we are taking on the challenge once again. In September 2016 my best friend Catherine received a terminal cancer diagnosis. A drug trial brought her more time in which she was well enough to make lasting memories for her family and friends to cherish. She enjoyed a trip to Disneyland Paris with her family, participated in one last pilgrimage to Lourdes with a group of disabled young people, a cause she was passionate about, and enjoyed an outdoor screening of Dirty Dancing with a group of girlfriends. Together, Catherine and I saw Robbie Williams in concert one last time, got last minute tickets for Take That, enjoyed an overnight stay in Canterbury, and retail therapy in Rochester, among many other special times. This precious time was only made possible by the continuing research of organisations like Cancer Research UK, and every penny raised is making a difference to peoples' lives. Catherine passed away in November 2017. This is just part of my story, but there are other very special family members that will be in my thoughts as we walk the streets of London on the 21st September. Each year Cancer Research UK’s scientists get closer to beating cancer, and they’ve helped double survival rates in the last 40 years. But we can’t stop there. Only with our continued support can they turn this research into breakthroughs that save millions of lives. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please sponsor me now.
