Team Ruth & Justine Cancer is happening right now, which is why I'm taking part in a Race for Life 5k to raise money and save lives and in memory of my wonderful Dad who died in Feb 2016 and my best friend's Dad who died in Sept 2016. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, so please dig deep and sponsor me now if you can. Any amount will be greatly appreciated and will make a difference. Donating through this page is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with Cancer Research UK. My dad sadly passed away on 12th February 2016 after a relatively short battle with cancer. He was diagnosed with a cyst on his kidney the year before he died but it wasn't until late October / early November that it became clear this mass was cancerous. He declined rapidly but fought hard to be well enough to start chemo treatment. He managed it and I sat with him as the chemo was pumped through his veins. We chatted as though we were sitting in the lounge and he was just pleased he could have a sandwich and a cup of tea! Sadly, on the next visit his blood wasn't good enough to proceed and he was turned away. He tried again to get well enough, keeping hold of the thought that the treatment would make the difference but it was not to be and after two difficult weeks in hospital he passed away peacefully at Thorpe Hall. Throughout his treatment he gave thanks to the wonderful staff in our NHS. They often work under very difficult conditions, under staffed and over worked but always trying to do their best. We were very fortunate that he was moved to the wonderful Thorpe Hall where he was cared for like a king and made comfortable before he passed. We know it is not like this for everyone and our heart goes out for those, like my best friend Ruth, who do not have a similar experience. EVERYONE should be in a place of comfort in their final hours and hopefully one day we will be able to manage this. Please, please help us raise well needed funds for this amazing cause. It is a disease that affects us all and every family has been witness to cancer in some form or another. One day WE WILL BEAT CANCER! Thank you so much for reading this, love to all who are fighting and suffering today. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. xx
