My Story
In 2016, when I was 26 years old, I went to the doctor for a routine smear test. The test results showed severe abnormalities in my cervix which turned out to be stage 3 pre-cancerous cells. At the time, I did not have any symptoms or signs which would have indicated the abnormalities. I was required to have an invasive operation to surgically remove the cells, if I had not had the surgery, the cells would have developed into cancer. Early detection saved my life. If I had missed the smear test or postponed it, my life could have changed irreversibly. I feel incredibly lucky and grateful that the condition was found early enough as a result of attending a routine smear test. We can help prevent Cervical Cancer by supporting the groundbreaking research carried out by Cancer Research UK. On September 23rd 2017, I will be completing the Shine Night Walk - a Full Marathon – my first fundraising activity for this cause. I would be grateful for any donations which will enable Cancer Research UK to continue to save the lives of girls and women.
