In memory of
My Sister
Every year we take part in Race for Life but this year is different and it is heartbreaking to say that we are missing one of our group. The last time we ran Race for Life in 2018, myself, my two daughters, my sister and my granddaughter ran to celebrate my husband finishing immunotherapy and being cancer free after being diagnosed back in 2014. If we’d have known then what 2020 had in store it would have been a very different run. It is hard to find the words but heartbreakingly earlier this year we lost my sister to a very unexpected and aggressive GBM tumour. She was only 59 and she was so full of life, fun and love. GBM tumours are horrible things that are very quick to take hold, aggressive and hard to treat. No one saw it coming and even now it feels very surreal. Bee was diagnosed in August 2020 and passed away in January 2021. This year I run for my sister ❤️ The more we talk about cancer the more we realise that everyone has their own stories. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. After a year where vital cancer trials have been delayed, Cancer Research UK is likely to see a drop of around 20-25% in income so fundraising now is more important than ever. The 2020 Race for Life was estimated to raise at least £30 million. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work. Thanks all - we’ll be raising a glass for Bee after and you are more than welcome to join.
