After 16 years of cancer-free happiness, I’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer again. I’m aiming to walk every day of my chemo: 128 days, 128 walks, 500 miles and 1.5 million steps.
My Story
I was first diagnosed with breast cancer aged 25. Last October, sixteen years later, I had my annual mammogram and it came back with a cancer diagnosis. Since then I’ve had a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction and, thanks to three aggressive and fast-growing tumours, have just started six cycles of chemotherapy. Running usually keeps me (relatively) sane, but chemo treatment means I have a tube running from my chest into my heart veins, so I’m not allowed to run until the treatment is finished. So, if I can’t run, I’ll walk to beat cancer. Six cycles of chemo lasts for 128 days. That’s 128 walks and a target of 1.5 million steps. I can’t think of anything better than having a world where my daughter and nieces can grow up knowing that cancer is treatable and curable. Please help make that happen.
